But it appears that East Berliners were able to enter other areas of East Germany but were not able to enter into West Germany. Therefore, cutting them off in forming basically two separate social structures. The total area doesn’t make so much difference to me, as the politics

No it was an emotional wall. East Berlin was just giving the west the cold shoulder for all those years.

It would appear to me that the point was to differentiate between a Western model of free markets and democratic systems, and therefore the wall was built to divide that from the Eastern model of a Fascist Dictatorship
