This is true. Method and degree of legalization is also important to cost and availability.

They’re legal because they are less likely to lead to violent crimes. Allowing PCP, crack and meth to be used as recreational drugs doesn’t take away the addictive properties or make them healthy. Violent crimes due to drug use wouldn’t become less violent if legalized.

It looks like when most states make recreational drugs legal, they are really talking about making them highly regulated like prescription drugs

I wonder if the price of those drugs would go even higher if they were illegal. I’d have to think more on it.

I've not heard affordability/crime as a legalization argument. Crime should decline as illegal gangs are replaced with legal gangs, with market protection through the courts and not with mac-10s.

The only drugs that are really cost prohibitive to my knowledge are the trademarked prescription drugs. Alcohol and cigarettes are more expensive than they should be due to high sin taxes.

Legal drugs are subsidized. Illegal ones are not. Subsidies allow producers to charge more. Subsidies actually help producers, not people.

I’m trying to fallow but I can’t. How are they subsidized? How does that raise the price?
