I said AIDS, since despite the death (in part due to Spanish Flu) US came out dominating the civilized world after WW1. That's actually kind of a serious question. Are you feeling ok? Happy Christmas anyway.

There was no income tax before 1913. The Pre-WWI the national debt was a billion dollars. The total Federal budget in 1913 was $724,512,000. Prior to WWI the US had no need for a security state. Mass propaganda and witch-hunts were limited. There was no Selective Service System.
