took me 7 times to read that and understand it. I think that's actually a tenet of AA/NA - admitting to be powerless to the addiction - yet having to take responsibility for all actions causal to the addiction.

All the yes on this. It is characterized as a disease, but when it is suggested that someone shitting in public requires forced treatment, suddenly you are stigmatizing addiction. It’s either a disease that requires immediate treatment or it isn’t.

Addicts are generally possessed by an internal pain they don’t know how to alleviate, and the drugs dull that pain. I agree they are responsible for their actions though.
