If you like customs unions so much, can I ask why you weren’t pro LOTO voting for May’s deal, which had a defacto permanent customs union in it?

There’s a strong argument to say - given what has since happened - that was a mistake, yes.

I'm afraid this isn't really right. The close votes on CU (which isn't soft Brexit anyway) and EEA were indicative votes, in which the whole of the govt front bench abstained en masse. If it had got through, there would have been a substantive vote which would've definitely lost.

It would have shown will to compromise - May could point at commons and say it was filled with wreckers. She could because TIG, Greens, LDs and others were committed to wrecking anything short of remain.

Ian Dunt is like teflon for facts.

Should have said teflon for reality. Damn it.

Ian doesn't allow little things like facts or the truth to get in the way of his story.

Was that a vote vote or an indicative vote?
-
Indicative vote but the conservative government was so weak and cornered at that point (before Johnson) May might have seen it as an easy way out and gone for it. Who knows, either way they should have voted for it if they were willing to take compromise (as they are saying now).
