At least $4.3 billion of the $33 billion budget surplus comes directly from local prop taxes collected by local school districts & intended for schools. TX is 49th in per-student spending (of 50 states & DC). TX kids deserve better from the state. #txed #txlege #49th

Parents are currently empowered to make the choices they’d like for their children..unless, of course, we are talking about checking out books from the school library. Christian nationalist Republicans have trampled parents’ and kids’ right to choose what they want to read.

Every child deserves a high-quality education. Parents should be empowered to make those decisions – not government bureaucrats. #SchoolChoiceWeek

Why don’t you explain why eliminating the Freedmen’s Bureau didn’t hurt anybody, if that’s your view, and then maybe we’ll tell you why we need a functioning DOJ Civil Rights Division, NLRB, FEC, SEC, FTC, FDA, FAA, etc.

Please (1) name any federal regulatory agency whose elimination would negatively impact your life, and then (2) specify whether that agency’s necessary functions couldn’t be performed at least as well at the state or local level, or by a non-governmental body.

Net. Deficit. Increase. Of. $114Billion. All so people making more than $400k are under-enforced. That’s the GOP’s first priority.

The takeover of the GOP, in one picture. 2014 - Tea Party takes over. Throws Cantor out. 2018 - Trump Party takes over. Throws Ryan out. 2022 - MAGA Party takes over. Throws McCarthy out. They get more and more extreme, more and more reckless, more and more dangerous.

Governor Abbott is urging the state of Texas to criminally investigate people like Bishop Seitz for living their faith and actually reaching out to help migrants.
Quote Tweet
@BishopSeitz provides a tour of a church shelter in #ElPaso, and urges: “At Christmas, our hearts expand a little more…don’t be afraid of strangers.” Story of Mary & Joseph is a universal reminder to all of roots planted in generations of migration. @dallasnews w @LolaGomezC

Alleged Christian is celebrating the birth of Jesus (who sought asylum as a baby) by busing asylum seekers to another state, without even dropping them off at a shelter despite the freezing temps. The man wouldn’t know a Bible if it hit him in the head
Quote Tweet
Amy Fischer with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network tells me the 3 busses of asylum seekers were sent by Texas @GovAbbott & originally headed for NY but “shifted to DC because of the weather,” busses picking up were from DC govt- the migrants were bussed to a DC church. twitter.com/NoahGrayCNN/st…

Out of the 34 members of Congress that Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows exchanged texts with about plans to overturn the 2020 election, 5 of them were from Texas, including: Ted Cruz, Louie Gohmert, Kevin Brady, Brian Babin, and Chip Roy.

“I am (confidentially and off the record) appalled at Trump dining with anti semites. There is no (again to reiterate this is on background and not for attribution) place for him in our Party. This is the final straw (unless it looks like he’s winning and then I’m all in.)”

The height of callous power and impunity... stand and watch 21 people (many of them babies) die miserably in pools of their own blood... and then ask for MORE money to "train" to do what you already knew needed to be done but didn't do.

Here is the full attack on public schools sent by the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), from Kevin Roberts, who now leads the Heritage Foundation. It is loaded with literally all of the fear based rhetoric that white Christian nationalist ideology and orgs use.
Quote Tweet
If there was ever any doubt as to “Is the Texas Public Policy Foundation a Christian nationalist org who wants to tear down public schools?”, well fundraising letter from CEO Kevin Roberts answers it.
