Isn't the checkmark simply to verify the identity of the tweeter? It confers no authority or validation. Frankly, I'd prefer more users, not fewer, tweeted under their real identities.

This is the biggest problem with Hollywood types, IMO. They think because their occupation gains them more exposure and $$ that they have more credibility than someone who does what I do for a living.

Actors and pro athletes both "play" for a living. They contribute nothing practical to society and they tend to live in a bubble of unrealistic self-importance. I have no use for any of them.
