Pleasure speaking tonight to 50+ members of the brilliant NHS Clinical Entrepreneurs Programme on "How to Become a Social Entrepreneur". Huge thanks to and for inviting me to speak!

The #1 cause of startup death is making something no one wants. The #2 cause is spending too much. Those two account for so many deaths that I'm not even sure what #3 is. If you merely make something people want and don't spend too much, you're way ahead.

A practical definition of opportunity cost: If you spend too much time working on good things, then you don’t have much time left to work on great things. Understanding opportunity cost means eliminating good uses of time. And that's what makes it hard.

If we could magically see ppl's hypocritical actions, we'd lose faith in humanity If we could magically see the experiences that led to ppl's flaws, we'd be more compassionate Rn we're merely in the era where ppl are publicizing their private thoughts, & we're losing our minds

The great thing about being me is that I'm a total liberal that believes that free markets are the best way to accomplish the liberal agenda, so basically, everyone just hates me.

:') so funny. I've been complaining about the cold for weeks and saw one in Zara... It's solved the cold issue! goes with shirts, hoodies, jumpers. I didn't know it was trending though. Hopefully I was ahead of the curve!

An expense gives you back less than what you put into it. A transaction gives you back roughly the same as what you put into it. An investment gives you back more than what you put into it. Many things look like investments, but are actually expenses.

For years, I would force myself to write at least 25 possible titles for each article. Almost without fail, the best ideas came later in the list. The lesson: Don’t stop early. Ideas that are easy to think of are obvious. The good ideas come after the obvious ones are gone.

If I walk in Cambridge town for 15 mins, I already see several job adverts: retail, care homes, cleaning staff etc. If you really think migrants prevent you from having those jobs, let me know and I'll even advise on your CV for free.

VCs should treat founders as if they are investors in their funds. If all goes as planned, their family offices end up becoming your LPs

One of the most effective things you can do to build better habits is to join a culture where your desired behavior is the normal behavior. New habits seem achievable when you see others doing them every day.

Part of the problem with thinking that a popular "startup personality" will help you scale an early-stage service is that 90% of the startup world is noise; in the sense that there's no business there to be had. And the Top 10% doesn't give two shits about startup personalities.

I’m a student of change.I believe that to truly change our industry we need to learn to truly collab and learn from others.I thought that we’d each tag someone whom has taught us something and keep it going ➡️.I’ll start. Thanks 🙏 for introing me to service design.👊

There are 3 primary drivers of results in life: 1) Your luck (randomness). 2) Your strategy (choices). 3) Your actions (habits). Only 2 of the 3 are under your control. But if you master those 2, you can improve the odds that luck will work for you rather than against you.

When instructing lawyers, make sure they're starting from the right template! So many seed rounds are made unduly complicated and expensive by lawyers starting with later stage docs. There's no need for angels to be using VC docs.

The paradox of risk: (1) Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Lose the basket and you lose it all. (2) Don't put your eggs in too many baskets. The more baskets you manage, the less energy you can put into each one. It's risky to do things halfway. Diversified, but focused.
