It's infuriating to listen to hear them discuss racial issues. I don't think any well-intentioned person would call either of them racists. But like many white liberals, they're totally unaware that they have the privilege of examining race through a theoretical lens of whiteness

My favorite is, every now and then, about twice a year, Rogan wonders out loud why he can't say "nigger." (He uses the hard R, too.) which is interesting if you can separate it from its violent past (you can't).

Bernie always sidesteps race to explains how it is actually a problem of economics. I literally had to fast forward through his NYT editorial board interview. Luckily, I got a lot of practice listening to Joe Rogan discuss race. And if you're wondering why I listen here's why:

I'm black. If I refused to listen to white people who had no idea what they were talking about when it came to racial issues, I'd be restricted to Chris Hayes and Tucker Carson (Yes, I listen to Tucker Carlson. Who else would I find out what lowkey white supremacists think?)

Joe Rogan is an MMA expert like Bernie Sanders is an expert on legislation. Joe Rogan has never fought in the UFC and, in 29 years in Congress, Bernie has 7 acts of legislation passed 2 were real laws 2 named Post Offices 1 was for the VFW 1 was "Vermont Bicentennial Day"

See? Although they are both fight vets who have seen a lot of fighting without having to do shit. To be fair, Rogan admits he doesn't know a lot about politics. He doesn't have to. He's a rich white man who controls his income. And he has the right to say who he'd vote for

And Bernie doesn't have to do shit for Democrats. He's a rich white man from who never fucked with the Democratic Party until he ran for president. Rogan isn't a political podcaster any more than Bernie is a Democrat. Bernie wants to be PRESIDENT.

They have the same support base, bearded white dudes. Seriously, I went to see Rogan in concert a few months ago, and I haven't been in a place with that many white dudes in tight shirts since I worked a People-to-People concession stand at the Talladega 500.

Both of them will swarm your ass on the internet if you fuck with their beloved leader, which is funny because they have very little in common. Bernie Bros are the kids you avoided in high school because they smelled a little bit like old bologna and sometimes ate their boogers.

Those kids grew up, started listening to Rogan, took jujitsu class, got tattoo sleeves, became libertarians and often complain about whiny leftist weaklings like Bernie Bros. To vent their anger, the Bernie Bros get on Twitter and attack everyone else And the cycle continues

Finally, here is why you can't be mad at the Rogan Endorsement: Again, I'm not just saying this to be witty. I ACTUALLY LISTEN to Rogan. A LOT. I think he's funny. I think he's smart. When he's not talking about hunting, MMA, race or politics, I find him to be quite compelling

And when Bernie isn't talking about race; reducing discrimination to an economic issue; deftly avoiding any discussion that confronts white people about racism, or pretending that white supremacy is a class issue, I find his policies quite compelling.

Both of them are smart. Neither Joe or Bernie is as smart as they think they are. But, if Bernie is the nominee, I'll vote for him. If he's not, A LOT of those Bernie Bros are gonna vote for Trump just like A LOT of those Joe Rogan fans are also gonna vote for Trump.

Because, if there's one thing I can be sure of, it's that white men are gonna "white man." Who did you think Joe Rogan was gonna endorse? Amy Klobuchar? Pete Buttigieg? As Joe Rogan would say: "Nigger, please."
