I've tried every personal task mgmt tool there is. Settled into regularly dumping my mental to-do list into Apple Notes w/ check-boxes: - Clean/simple UI - Syncs w/ all my devices - Checking drops task to bottom - Search of "To-Do" shows old lists - Free Minimalist tools are🔥

Just got home after a day full of meetings and my wife says: “Hi. Why are you wearing my maternity sweater?” I defiantly refute the accusation. “Yea... well then what do you think those zippers on the side of your chest are for?” In my defense it is a very nice sweater.

Yet... it’s been 10 years and I can’t get myself to move away. It’s still got a magic... As a founder, I think the advs still outweigh the disadvs for STARTING in SF for now. We’re a ~50% distributed team and 100% plan to keep an office in SF but grow the bulk of HC elsewhere.

While in UT and I get asked what it’s like in the Bay Area I just pull out my phone and show them this on Zillow in the town where I rent in the Bay Area... 😳

Seems to be a trend lately among large SV companies to reject SV. Eric Yuan just said a similar thing when asked the same question in Nov: Easy to say now but unlikely either company would have had the same success they've experienced if based elsewhere.

Mark Zuckerberg just said at summit he wouldn’t choose the Bay Area if he could start from scratch.... 🤔

First time at Silicon Slopes tech summit! Wild how much things have grown up in the 10 years since I went to school here. My goal for the rest of the day is to find the “Michael Adams from UVU” whose pass they gave me... Wish me luck.

Love meeting amazing people via Twitter. Convo w/ today full of insights. A nugget I pulled out of our call using "Really great products do two things 1) fit with your workflow natively and 2) change behavior in a way that's masterful."

Merci knows this world as well as anyone I know, honored that was included in the map, especially since we’re pre-public beta. Rapidly moving toward showing the world what we’ve built to bring live voice and video comms into the async collaboration world. Can’t wait.

Shared channels are just the next part of Slack's original email killer vision. If done well (and there is still much work to do here) it will dramatically increase their nfx defensibility against teams. Long live Slack.

The big opportunity w/ shared channels is I can DM someone from another workspace from within my workspace. No more extra workspaces, emails, texts. It's a network of networks and a huge part of Slack's defensibility strategy, especially since workspaces have to be paid to do it

    1. Create a new channel using the + button 2. Name it '-theirco' 3. Click 'Share this channel outside Company' 4. Copy link and share w/ other-workspace user 5. Approve via Slackbot No more "what's your workspace url?" or "what's your admins email to send the request?"

🤯Just realized that quietly fixed cross-workspace shared channels... it's 10x better than before. I can instantly set-up the shared channel for low-touch async feedback from & give support to our beta users right in my existing workspace. Here's the 'How To' 👇

I go back to 's "We Don't Sell Saddles Here" all the time (usually late at night) and always find new nuggets like this one. “No small innovation ever caused a large shift in how people spend their time and no large one has ever failed to do so.”

BTW, thanks all for the ideas on an inclusive remote holiday party. We did a remote Secret Santa gift exchange live over and played the free legacy version of StarCraft while still live on Zoom (worked well for trash talk and coordination). Good times were had!

While imperfect, bootcamps are a massive net good for CA edu & biz. I've seen first hand 1000s of lives transformed under programs that were all 'operating illegally' must HELP education innovators thrive in California b/c the BPPE status quo does the opposite. 6/6

The statutes of the CA Private Post-secondary Education Act of 2009 () that created the BPPE stifle nearly all edu innovation in CA. It's well intentioned but like most regulation designed to deter bad actors, it also deters nearly all good actors. /5

We had 30 days from date of citation to comply or the BPPE threatened to bar us from future approval. We appealed & got approved but it didn't matter b/c MissionU was no more. I know of other schools that have been 2+ years after submission for approval without hearing back. /4

The ISA was both our student acquisition and revenue model. Losing it killed the business and is why we sold so that we could forgive ISAs and still have $ to teach out our existing students and support their job search, while returning as much $ as possible to investors. /3

We did get approved but only if we agreed to remove everything about Income Share Agreements from our website, which they claimed at the time are against CA Law. I forget the specific statute but it was the least favorable interpretation about not charging different tuition. /2

🚨This happened to us at MissionU two years ago🚨 It was the main thing that lead to the school closing as its assets were acquired by WeWork. We applied before taking on students but the BPPE sat on it for 6 months then fined us $100k. /1
