    I poured my whole heart out into this little book. "My Father Left Me Ireland" comes out April 29th. It's a romance between an American son and his absent Irish father. It's a small nationalist rebellion against the experience of exile. Pre-order now.

  2. We need to recognize the unique cultural gifts of marginalized groups like affluent people with good government services who want a subsidy from lower-income taxpayers with resource starved state governments. Without them Mad Men would have been cancelled after 1 season.

  7. I confess I’ve found the anti-metaphysic approach pretty tempting. In trying to defend some peculiar aspects of Catholic morality, it just seems more Biblical to say God gives a law to mark off his people. Seems easier than inventing natural law.

    These restrictions are absurd. (No outdoor dining, no walking/jogging outside, “stay home.”) We know a lot more now than we did in March about how covid spreads. Every needless restriction not supported by science erodes confidence in gov’t and increases the backlash.

    Simply put, our contemporary sociopolitical alienation amounts to a failure to think and speak of our society in the first-person plural — in terms of “us” and “we” and “ours.”
