    I poured my whole heart out into this little book. "My Father Left Me Ireland" comes out April 29th. It's a romance between an American son and his absent Irish father. It's a small nationalist rebellion against the experience of exile. Pre-order now.

    We need to recognize the unique cultural gifts of marginalized groups like affluent people with good government services who want a subsidy from lower-income taxpayers with resource starved state governments. Without them Mad Men would have been cancelled after 1 season.

    I confess I’ve found the anti-metaphysic approach pretty tempting. In trying to defend some peculiar aspects of Catholic morality, it just seems more Biblical to say God gives a law to mark off his people. Seems easier than inventing natural law.

    This ⁦⁩ is a lovely salute to R. Jonathan Sacks, ז”ל. But it is also a shrewd assessment of the ongoing intellectual contest between Judaism and Catholicism, two religions that are increasingly allied on a great many subjects.

    These restrictions are absurd. (No outdoor dining, no walking/jogging outside, “stay home.”) We know a lot more now than we did in March about how covid spreads. Every needless restriction not supported by science erodes confidence in gov’t and increases the backlash.

    This seems so counterproductive. In LA, you're not (technically speaking) allowed to go on a masked, distanced jog with one friend? Few people are going to abide by those rules and you lose your claim to being science-driven.
