    I have started holding back my Twitter opinions on things, because they might be dumb. But now I suspect my presence here is falsely taken as consent to all of your terrible ideas. I just want to reiterate. Your opinion is much dumber than mine, and probably shouldn't be legal.

    She should just say that this bit of family lore was very important to her and in trying to take it seriously, she may have carried things too far. Then she should not run for President.

    There's nothing wrong with taking family lore over-seriously. So saith the author of a forthcoming book regarding his descent from the high kings of Ulster.

    Letting your law school ID you as minority for a little while because of dubious family lore is not the worst thing in the world, and Warren should have apologized for it years ago, blamed her enthusiasm for family stories, dropped the issue and treated "Pocahontas" as a joke.

    If, say, Romney claimed his parents eloped because his mom was part NA, submitted recipes to NA cookbook, told his employers he was NA, and then a DNA test showed at LATEST he had a NA ancestor in the 1700s, the media takeaway would not be that his critics overstated things.
