Poll: Is this a chart crime?
-

-
If this is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
-
I voted no FWIW. Thinking about printing this on a stretched duck canvas. DM me if you want one.
-
I am reporting it for
#chartcrimes#chartcrime even before the poll runs out. Felonious. -
The people have spoken. It appears I’m guilty on all counts.
-
how would the chart look if you include all of the S&P components?
-
100%. More or less.

This is the problem with this graph It's factual, but doesn't present the entire picturepic.twitter.com/k8AVkCJK4e

without text, yes, I could see this. But I was pretty clear about what it was showing. If you didn't read it, it's easy to think these 5 were half the market. Not what I intended, obviously.
-
I really didn't have a problem because I understood that. I think it goes against the general way people use pie charts, to present sections of the whole. I was actually just seeing how easy it was it snip from Excel to Twitter. Really easy.
-
So what is market cap of the "middle" ~213? My guess is around $20 trn. Also interesting is how that "Top 5 %" has evolved historically.
-
I might have used a stacked bar instead of a pie, but small detail

This kind of concentration isn't all that unusual historically, is it? cc:
@hsilverb -
Both can be correct, but the first is misleading by dropping the middle 203 companies.
-
Oh god, thanks for clarifying. Misleading at best then.

quantiles would be better
