In my class on communication, I explore the question: If telepathy were real - if we could "read" each others thoughts - would we still have problems communicating? Answer: Yes. Lots. And we are stuck with crude words and symbols to move thoughts between minds.
I've wondered about that, too. I've heard advocates of brain-computer interfaces suggest they might eventually help clear up misunderstandings, but it's far from obvious to me that's true. (Interesting to consider, either way, IMO.)
Agreed! Accents, languages, disabilities, incomplete thoughts, tacit & ineffable ideas, and abstract concepts are just a few things that might “throw a monkey wrench” (& idioms!) into effective communication via telepathy.
