I disagree with this. The best way to ask a question is usually the simplest, even if the first answer it's likely to elicit isn't the one you want, and even if you know that in advance. I haven't tried your specific technique, so I'm pattern matching to various other clever ways of asking questions that I've tried and (informally) find inferior to simplicity. However, the group conversation qualification makes more sense, since that means fewer 1-1 iterations.
