"The study failed to replicate" is something I often hear, usually with the implication the original study must have been bad, or had something wrong with it. This is a bad misunderstanding of what failure to replicate means.

Right. Theory-driven discovery — it’s a thing.
As my other in-thread example (the Q of sapphire) shows, this has nothing to do with being theory driven. It's just a statement that replication is often much harder than people tend to think.

I got that when I read more of the thread. No question that replication is often not so easy. Thx for response. I am a bit(?) jaded on data-driven threads.
