Seductive, in part, because it's often a good choice! But occasional restarts as a beginner is very good, IMO: it keeps you fresh, it's fun, & helps you build unique-in-the-world combinations of expertise.

Seems like two related problems: when returns to exploitation are higher, the opportunity cost of exploring is also higher; and when fluent in one set of tools and concepts, it's hard not to use them, even if others are more suitable.
