Can we block people without creating filter bubbles?
I increasingly think it's the reverse. If you block assholes, that leaves much more mental space to engage with thoughtful people who disagree with you.
I share that intuition. And there's another mechanism too: When people who favor some ideology X see obnoxious arguments against X, that entrenches them even more in X.
