No. If something is clearly a bad idea, then you don't wait for it to establish itself. You stop it now. I agree: bringing closed access to ML - a historically very open field - is a very bad idea, and now is exactly the right time to stop it.

I disagree on how clearly this is a bad idea. Obvs I take such strong views seriously (I'd be mad if we didn't worry about that!), but Nature is not preventing anybody from publishing OA.
