Also, and I know I will regret typing this, but folks working for (say) Facebook don't exactly have a leg to stand on when it comes making an (ethical) point about other companies' business models.

A false dichotomy. (a) Logically, it's fine for them to believe that FB is fine, but Nature is not; and (b) even if they personally have qualms about Facebook, that doesn't mean they should give up acting correctly in respect to other companies. Very poor argument on your part.

Much like arguing that if someone drinks too much alcohol, they shouldn't have any qualms about smoking cigarettes as well. You may find the FB people hypocritical, but personally I'd prefer they do what is right as much as possible, even if I disagree w/them in some aspects
