Forward only time travel is largely equivalent to cryostasis. There are many interesting plots that would arise from either scenario :)
Vernor Vinge has written at least two books about forward only time travel. "The Peace War" and "Marooned in Realtime". The second, in particular, is superb.

+1. Similar title but likely very different book, "The Forever War" has forward only time travel as essential (and fascinating) plot via interstellar travel's time dilation. I read the book only recently but it seemed surprisingly prescient given it was written in 1976.

Forward only time travel is easily possible given travel close to the speed of light and/or hanging out near an event horizon.
