Another observation that made a difference for me is, that movies - are a medium for action, for doing. Things happen ilon screen with a physical&visual implication, vs. books, where you are exposed to the inner workings of a character's mind, thoughts & feelings...

Sometimes you are exposed to those in a movie too. Done less often than in books, but Breen possibility is there

Excellent. Substitute “movies” for a lot of things, like politics and entertainment, and it’s still true.

Since childhood, I have “naively”perceived everything else - i.e. that separated from the world I am living in - as real (myths, art, etc.). Only later I did realize that everything is real and the problem is only the matter of the “right keys”to another worlds.

Criticism is how we reflect and examine the ways movies shape us, emotionally.

The messy bit is that there are intellectual processes driving emotional responses. Eg: suspension of disbelief is (I think?) more intellectual than emotional. If illusion is broken (esp. during a viewing), that movie will have a much harder time working on an emotional level.
