If someone says/does something I disagree with, I often check to see how much online criticism they've already received before saying anything. 99% of the time I realize they've received even more criticism than their wrong statement/act warranted and opt not to add to it.
This seems like a pretty good (eventual) use for natural language processing: to automatically tell you "This person has already received 50 negative comments about this, do you really want to pile on?"
