This is a great point. I've been highly suspicious of how much most people learn and understand via lectures from n=1 anecdotal experience. However, I'm really curious how these outcomes change with YouTube lectures when you can rewind, pause to reconsider....

Last time I taught my favorite class I started in-class exercises for some topics; demos for some others. The difference in performance on the final between topics with exercises and those without was shocking. So, now I’m building interactive web-based demos for every lecture.
I've anecdotally found that I learn (or at least I think I learn?) quite a bit from YouTube lectures with ability to pause, take it in, struggle with material, rewind, go faster when needed etc
Btw, hello Michael! You don't know me but you've had a big impact on me thru your neutral nets book. I can see the sweat and blood you spent figuring out how to best explain a concept. It's made me appreciate writing quite a bit. And got me into deep learning. A big fan of you :)
