The whole thing should be a VM. Preferably in a format that can be archived, and run forever. (I'm quite serious, and have been arguing this for more than a decade.)
Like a browser-based VM? :) I remember chatting with @ch402 and @shancarter about whether Distill posts will still “work” in 10 years or even 20 years from now. I was on the more pessimistic side, maybe now I’m going to be on the losing side of that bet!
Not a terrible idea. Thought it's unclear if it'll still run in browsers a thousand years from now. I can still read the Rosetta Stone or the Ahmes Papyrus.
