Interesting. I've heard lots of practicing research scientists use the term. As my comment suggests I'm not sympathetic to it, but certainly my experience is different from Pinker's.

If you take the exaggeration out of "Against Method", I have a good deal of sympathy for Feyerabend. But he misses many important things, too.

Come up with an idea, actively try to prove it false. It's not about standards of evidence, it's about method and direction.
Yeah and we must be willing to change methods as we learn to improve them. Collectively, this is a challenge.
