Where do you most often come across interesting ideas—especially weird or surprising ones?

I'll read the thread before replying, but first mention one source I believe is unusual: surfing Google Scholar's topic lists, eg https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=search_authors&hl=en&mauthors=label:quantum_information …
The good thing about this is that you can discover people who are prominent within a field who have little external profile. Looking at their most influential publications is often very interesting.

You can kind of topic-surf and discover fields you didn't know were fields, and the most influential authors and papers in the field. Wish Scholar let you filter by location as well.
