There are also subtle design decisions that may be having significant impact. For example, HCI work shows one can't hold more than 3-5 items in short term visual mem which has informed visual HCI. We might not see what not to do.

The HCI that involves visual search and memory uses that work to make decisions on other HCI design. Does doing x increase productivity or improve retention? Where x may be using 3D or color or glyphs. Also, HCI afaik includes all aspects incl input sensors like fingprints/cams
