Getting fairly addicted to Anki as a result of this twitter thread from @michael_nielsen & few posts I've encountered in the past https://www.gwern.net/Spaced-repetition …. Was easier than I expected to learn lots of countries/states/flags. Wish there were more "open-sourced" anki decks out there.https://twitter.com/michael_nielsen/status/957763229454774272 …

The use of spaced repetition memory systems has changed my life over the past couple of years. Here's a few things I've found helpful:

I tried to Ankify some facts yesterday from a book I'm reading (on how humans are destroying nature, it's really quite uplifting), but find the [book-reading] <-> [Ankifying on laptop] handoff to be somewhat awkward. @michael_nielsen - tips?

This is one reason I now prefer to read on screen. Something I sometimes do in the Kindle app is highlight passages where there's something I want to Ankify, and do it later.

This can get onerous and feel like a job if you make the batches too large, though. Best to make it so it doesn't usually take more than 5-10 minutes to add a bunch of cards. Can easily do that in some dead time (waiting for appointment etc).

I presume the same strategy would work with a physical book + highlights too.

I find my iPad pro is a big help here. Using ebooks for everything lets me export notes as markdown, which can be put into Anki easily.
