Nothing beats authoring your own cards, but properly curated decks can be tremendously powerful study aids for standardized exams. This is especially true for med school, where shared Anki decks like the one by
@brosencephalon have taken online education by storm. -
There's a whole generation of future docs currently passing through the trials of med school with the help of Anki. I would know, since I'm one of them!

The only time I’ve found shared decks helpful are for vocabulary (especially for second languages). Other than that the act of creation and fine tuning your own decks are an important process IMO.
