One of my questions about https://distill.pub/2017/aia/ is why they think there isn't already a space for "artificial intelligence augmentation" in the HCI or computational creativity communities; suggests that those people aren't working on this also. @shancarter @michael_nielsen

We don't say that - we explicitly mention HCI and computational creativity as places where this kind of work is being done, and some of the work we cite comes out of those communities.
With that said, some of the most exciting work (IMO) is coming from outside those communities, and our main examples are of this type.

An idea I find especially exciting is using computers to develop new fundamental primitives of thought, & much of the essay is aimed in that direction. That's an idea that seems surprisingly uncentral to much modern HCI work (though, of course, it's quite visible in HCI's roots).
