I read 51 books in 2017 (may squeeze in one or two more before EOY). Here are my favorites, with a little bit of commentary. In no particular order:

51 books? Amazing...What are some methods that you use to read consistently?

I’m very competitive, so setting a public goal on @goodreads and looping in my book club @zsims and @marissa helps a lot. Unfortunately I surpassed my goal but @zsims trounced me anyways!

How do make sure you retain all of the concepts that you are reading about & synthesize your own opinions regarding those topics? Heavy note-taking?

Great question. I’m not sure I’m the best at this. I have actually come to terms w the fact that my conscious mind will forget a lot but a lot is being assimilated into my mental models, like @paulg explains here: http://www.paulgraham.com/know.html

I find using Anki with a goal in mind (say: add 50 flashcards for a book) helps a lot with this. It's also interesting and useful to figure out what is best to add.

Spaced repetition system. I use it for almost everything; average about 6000 new cards per year. Takes about 20 minutes to review each day, usually while walking to coffee or travelling.
