It's an interesting definition. I'm not sure I like "preserve" or "rights", which assumes these are somehow innate. I'd be reluctant to give them the same sort of ethical stature as a right to free speech, or to privacy. Maybe "give people to ability"

Another shortcoming: the main benefit is the ability to build off each others' work, not to "reach independent conclusions". So: "It is endeavouring to give others maximal ability to build off my work."
