I think 'optimize for learning' is great advice. "Optimize for extraordinary people in your life' is even better advice (because the former directly follows).

These are great crisp summaries. There's a small grain of truth to "optimize for an email inbox that makes you excited, not bored." I remember realizing that leaving academia and changing research fields had greatly improved my email inbox. That was a good day.
