Very interesting proposal to change the social contract. Would be informative to trial at state or local level, to get a handle on unexpected consequences (both positive and negative).https://twitter.com/sama/status/935197741092868096 …

I read this as a (very smart) reframing of universal basic income. Is that inaccurate?

I've no idea if that's the intent - it's not my proposal. It seems quite different in many ways, though, in producing alignment of goals and of purpose.

To me, they seem operationally related, since it's also an "unconditional money transfer". But with AE, as GDP increases/decreases, so do "dividends". Hmm.

Yes, didn't mean to say it wasn't similar! Obviously, it's extremely similar, I'm just seeing a lot of "Oh, this is a rebranded UBI" in my timeline, when the change is quite a bit deeper than just rebranding. Sam's comparison to the invention of co's is apt.

Ah, I meant no demeaning of it - I apologize for leading my question that way. I _was_ wondering about operational differences, and missed the importance of pegging to some notion of the health of overall economy like GDP.

Elsewhere in my timeline I point out some interesting consequences of tying it to GDP. Overall, I think the effect of such a tying would be net positive, but with substantial downsides.
