Ah, I meant no demeaning of it - I apologize for leading my question that way. I _was_ wondering about operational differences, and missed the importance of pegging to some notion of the health of overall economy like GDP.
Elsewhere in my timeline I point out some interesting consequences of tying it to GDP. Overall, I think the effect of such a tying would be net positive, but with substantial downsides.
