Which is nuts: a billion-dollar entity is asking me to donate my time for free, and to put up the money to do so, hoping I'll be reimbursed.

Think yourself lucky, as a consultant I sometimes float thousands of dollars of hardware costs alongside thousands of dollars in travel.
