why is it that when we learn how an algorithm works it seems less magical, but when we get to know a person they seem more magical?

For instance, I feel that way about Quicksort. And even about the design of Bitcoin - it has flaws, but is nonetheless beautiful.

i feel similarly about the hungarian method. i think it's because i understand the implementation but not the proof.
