It also rewards massive moves in the direction you don't like, to create future chances to move in the direction you like.

As far as I can tell, "good behavior" should mean "representing my policy preferences", not "r.m.p.p. more than last time".

I think Carol Dweck's work in social psych supports this idea. Traits (and maybe pol positions?) can change over time
