@michael_nielsen interesting - I suspect if I'd had the choice at the time, I would have chosen student. def pros & cons to both.
@sarahkendrew I wouldn't have wanted to do a PhD as a cog in someone else's research program. I really dislike that model :-(

@michael_nielsen yes glad I'm not a particle physicist! I think astro is still very good with giving PhD students independence. -
