@mcnees I don't think that's apocryphal. If I recall correctly SW tells the story (rather apologetically) in "Dreams of a Final Theory".

@mcnees I think it was near the beginning. I may be misremembering: I read it in 1993, I think. I'd certainly heard the story s'where.
