Our disciplinary borders are 300 yrs old, why are they still the same? I hate citing Foucault but… it's more about discipline than learning.

@michael_nielsen From my HoS perspective, departments stay pretty close to their founding principles, and fade away rather than change.
@scott_bot What would kill them off? Retirement? When appointment process mostly driven by internal politics, change is slow!
