It's on a smaller scale, but more recent: it might be worth looking into how much it cost Rocket Lab to get the Electron rocket into orbit for the first time. First successful orbit was 2018, and the preceeding investment round was series D, $75 million

That's great (and thanks for point it out). I'm a tiny bit disappointed the Series D wasn't for, you know, $12 million or something. Still, nice to know and a great achievement!

If the goal is a demonstrator launch to orbit... a tenth that, with the right team. But hiring the right team is going to be *hard* in a way that I doubt is fully captured by the cost.
