What is the optimum long-term global mean temperature, compared with today's?
Fun question. Though it's much more subjective than most of mine, which are questions of fact (or are meant to imply such - e.g., the question about lifetime of the CO2 in the atmosphere is a question absent human intervention. But, of course, we may intervene.)
Curious: do you have an answer? My guess: most people will give different answers. But there will be a substantial cohort of back-to-nature nostalgics whose answer is "the pre-industrial level".
One curious thing: if we gain the ability to control CO2 / GHG / temp levels, that creates a very different governance problem: how to decide at what level to set the temp? (And ocean acidification). I can imagine a future in which we have conferences on CO2 levels being too low
And people complain about the evil carbon capture / air-mining companies, driving CO2 levels down below 200 ppm, causing an ice age... when will it stop!
