I'm not wild about gotcha journalism. But geez I'd love to ask some of the people writing about climate some basic questions. What are total CO2 emissions per year? What percentage is due to the US? To China? To coal? To power generation?
I'm sure Smil's writing is great, but for some reason I just can't get into it!

They won't be accepted as a common authority by all stakeholders :) To me, that's MacKay's genius -- meeting his audience where they were without ideological judgment of anything but the impossibility of the numbers. We need agreed-upon sources.
