It isn't an anomaly. 3 main rankings: THE 1st and 3rd; QS 4th and 7th; ARWS 3rd and 7th. Slightly different methodologies will lead to slight differences as noted here.
I don't think of those as small differences, especially when similar differences in ranking seem to persist year after year. The difference between 1st and 4th best in the world at something is often enormous; ditto 3rd versus 7th.
so let's take Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and CalTech (QS, THE; AWS). Stanford: 2, 4, 2 Harvard: 3, 7, 1 MIT: 1, 5, 4 CT: 5, 2, 9 It's all about different methodologies to measure 'top'. Which you will notice if you go into the websites and read the methodology section.
It’s not a huge difference at all. This isn’t a sport. It’s highly subjective. It’s more like ballon Dor before Messi and Ronaldo But everyone knows university rankings are BS anyway. Does it surprise me that the English list is set up to rank English Unis first? Of course not.
As a student, will you get a better education at Harvard, Cambridge, Imperial, MIT? No, it’s mostly about the student. Not like a uni with more Nobel laureates means you get a better education.
