But while that expression is beautiful, it's also rather imprecise. What I like about the Baez-Emory formulation is that it's also very simple, but is mathematically precise!

Thanks! By the way, "begins to shrink" refers to the *second* time derivative of the volume of the ball, not the first derivative, which is zero. Some people get thrown by that.
