I *can tell* when I am or am not doing good solid work, versus whether I'm only giving the appearance of doing so. People have the ability to detect soundness and making sense, versus confabulated nonsense, including in their own output. Why do we gaslight this out of them?
When you put it like that, yeah, the best gloss is sometimes "Don't worry, everyone else is terrible at this too." Which somehow isn't very reassuring!
Yeah, I think there's something important here about distinguishing between a self-assessment of "I don't feel well-suited to this task/project" vs "I fear I am incapable compared to others." Also a diff in tone between "I don't get it" & "I have lots of learning to do here!"
