I grew up with the SPE. I remember hearing about it as a teenager, I believe, along with the Milgram experiment. It affected in a big way how I think about ethics. So this is all very, very striking for me.

The Stanford Prison Experiment shows more about the Authoritarian dynamic of academic culture than much about how prisons work. Remember that the people followed through with this because of student/teacher dynamics.
