The only way I can kill my darlings writing is if I copy and paste them into a "discard" doc. They're not *dead* dead, just... resting!

I think Evernote Google Docs etc have version control/edit history type features, but I like to be able to survey them in once place so the work doesn't feel wasted and just in case I need to resurrect anything!

Fair enough. Git isn't beginner friendly either, but being able to get visual diffs between versions/merge versions into each other is precious. It's essential for software, but personally think it's great for writing.

I used to use version control (git, svn, cvs, and rcs all!) to cope with material I've decided to discard. Now I just move the text around. It's faster and more fluid and that really matters. Still use git to write, though.
