A type of claim that makes me instantly discount a speaker: "... I've observed many different cases, and *every single one* turned out to support my thesis" (Example: "I've talked with many conservatives about this issue, and every single one has said that their opinion is X")
Fun to think about more compelling variations that seem sorta similar: "I tried to find counterexamples to my thesis, using [these strategies], and wasn't able to." Better: "My thesis started as [this], I tried to find counterexamples, & here's how my thesis changed in response."
Which plenty of people in our community explicitly do, with [these strategies] including "asked for counterexamples on Twitter, reaching N people, and here were the interesting replies". I like that!
